Better planning with Pinterest: new notes, dates and recommendations for boards
It all starts with a board. People come to Pinterest to look ahead. They find inspiration and ideas on Pinterest and save those ideas to boards, whether it’s for a dinner recipe, weekend activity, or planning for a birthday party or wedding. While planning might look different these days as we adjust to the new normal of quarantine, people are getting back to future optimism. Recently, they’ve returned to searches about travel, event planning, summer, weddings and more. In fact, last month there was a 60% increase in the number of boards created (compared to the same time a year ago), while engagement with boards is up nearly 75% year-over-year and nearly 50% month over month globally*.
With increases in the creation of boards focused on virtual activities* (+50% from March to April), virtual learning and virtual baby showers, for instance, we want to make board organisation easier than ever, so Pinners can take action on the ideas they find. And so today, we’re introducing the ability to add notes within boards to list out ingredients or tasks for a project, as well as adding dates to boards to keep tabs on projects and receive timely recommendations, new automatic grouping of Pins into sections to organise ideas into themes, and new suggested board section templates.
Use dates and notes to organise projects
Planning for your next virtual get-together? Now you can add dates to boards to track the timeline for your project and later archive the board once you’ve finished.
And, with the new notes feature you can jot down details, ingredients to grab at the grocery store (or place that order online), or create a to-do list right within boards. Pro tip: add Pins to your notes so you have a visual reminder of your to-do list!
Pinner Story
Talia, one of our Pinners who creates immersive experiential events, used Pinterest during this time at home in isolation to create a virtual tie-dye party, which replaced her backyard birthday barbeque.
Get things done by grouping your Pins
Consider the new and improved boards your personal assistant. We’ll use our technology to suggest sections to organise your boards. For example, maybe you have an unruly number of do-one-day-kids activities on a board, but you’ll be much more likely to try them if organised into sections like “art projects” and “outdoor games”.
Discover new ideas and sections with suggested templates
In addition to automatic grouping, we’re also giving Pinners a guided experience as they begin their project starting from when they save their first Pin. For example, if you’re planning a birthday celebration, we’ll give you suggested sections and ideas for invitations, decor, food & drink and activities.
New board features are rolling out globally starting today on web, iOS and Android.
