Celebrating International Women's Day

This month, in honour of International Women’s Day and it’s theme “choose to challenge”, we are celebrating the ways women use Pinterest to inspire them for their own life challenges both big and small. Women have always come to Pinterest to discover inspiration to create the life they love. Now more than ever, they are in search of ideas for how to reimagine their careers and to navigate through times of change.

A recent study shows 822,500 (ONS, 2021) women currently face unemployment across the UK and while many people’s careers were affected as a result of the pandemic, women were impacted the most, facing challenges such as job loss or juggling multiple responsibilities including childcare, job and home life. On Pinterest, we are seeing women around the world searching for job-related inspiration more than ever -- boards created by women for “dream jobs” have increased by 10x¹.

Women are betting on themselves

Pinterest’s annual trends report, Pinterest Predicts has already indicated an increasing interest by people for starting their own businesses. And, it seems that especially women are taking a leap this year, with searches for “small business plan” up 50x³ and boards created by women for their “business checklist” up 5x¹.  Women are also building confidence for their next chapter with searches such as “powerful business woman aesthetic” 28x³. See more career-related searches by women below:

Women-owned businesses in the Pinterest Shop

“Around the world, working women were the most affected by changes we saw in 2020 and so we launched the International Women's Day Shop as a way to support and show our commitment to small businesses. Pinterest has always been the place to be inspired and discover new brands. We are thrilled to give these women-run businesses a platform to shine.”

Discover inspiration in the Today Tab

Additionally, throughout the month of March, Pinners will be able to discover inspiration in the Today Tab from local female founders, entrepreneurs and creatives, who will be sharing their knowledge to help Pinners build a life - and launch a business - they’ll love. The likes of Kaiva Kaimins from My Lady Garden, Poppy Deyes and Stefanie Sword-Williams from F*ck Being Humble will dish on everything from how to network to overcoming imposter syndrome and branding your business.

For the month of March, Pinterest has also set up an International Women’s Day fund and will match donations from employees to nonprofits helping women succeed like the National Domestic Workers Alliance and the Global Fund for Women. Because when women succeed, we all do.
