Pinterest celebrates Pride with Tastemade exclusive content series and Sasha Colby board drop
Pinterest is proud to be a place for people to celebrate their identities and find their voices within the LGBTQIA+ community. This Pride Month, Pinterest is launching “Pride and Progress”, a content series with creators and brands around the world, including RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Sasha Colby.
Sasha Colby is a California-based drag performer, actress, dancer, and trans advocate. She discovered her passion for dance and fell in love with drag at an early age growing up in Hawaii. Sasha made history as the first Native Hawaiian contestant and winner of RuPaul's Drag Race, Season 15. As part of the “Pride and Progress” series, Sasha is revealing a curated Pinterest board highlighting the inspiration behind her iconic looks — past, present and future.
Sasha Colby
“I’ve been a Pinterest Queen for years. Pinterest has always been the platform I’ve used to help realize my looks and performances, and I’ve been harnessing inspiration on my boards for years. Pinterest allows me to push my creative thinking and delve into ideas I wasn’t even originally searching for. I’m proud to collaborate with Pinterest this Pride Month to reveal the board behind so many of my greatest inspirations.”
Throughout Pride Month, Pinterest will be highlighting several LGBTQIA+ creators on Today's inspiration. People can discover ideas for self-expression, wellness, LGBTQIA+ travel destinations and more. Pinners will discover products from LGBTQIA+ brands within Shopping Spotlights on Pinterest in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, Germany, France, Brazil, Mexico, Spain and Italy.
At Pinterest, we want to be a safe place for your proudest self. We increasingly see from searches on the platform that Pinners are looking for inspiration to explore and express their identities. For example, searches for “understanding gender” are up +550%, with “gender identity poster” and “self expression painting” both up +415% and +455% year over year.
Queer fashion is also trending on Pinterest with searches growing for “non-binary outfits” (+355%), “genderqueer fashion” (+300%), and “queer outfits men” (+335%). Beauty searches for “non-binary hair” (+285%) and “genderfluid hairstyles” (+210%) have increased year over year.
Proud on Pinterest with Tastemade
Since last year, we’ve partnered with Tastemade to create compelling creator content, live shopping shows and events. For Pride Month, we will launch a new series of live-streaming shows in the US, UK, Canada, Germany and France, including:
- Proud of Me: This series offers an intimate glimpse into the daily lives of some of the most talented queer creators, including Meg Garrod and David Lovric. Each episode will take viewers on a personal journey through their day to inspire Pinners to embrace their true selves and live with genuine pride.
- Home Away from Home: From quaint coffee shops to vibrant art galleries, “Home Away from Home'' is a journey of love and acceptance, celebrating and exploring local businesses and locations that have become safe havens for the LGBTQIA+ community. The show will also live on a new Pinterest board all about LGBTQ+ safe places, which is open to the community to add Pins of their own favorite spots.
- Queen of All Trades: This series showcases the versatility, skills and passions of notable drag artists beyond fashion and beauty. From math to cooking, art to athletics and even ‘get ready with me’ videos, Pinners will learn about all the unexpected things drag queens do in their lives.
- Here Comes the Pride: People come to Pinterest to plan their wedding, and “Here Comes the Pride” shines a light on all the details that go into planning a wedding full of Pride. From flower arrangements to photography, each episode features a different creator involved in the wedding industry who will provide tips on planning through a queer lens.
Happy Pride!
